Geography is concerned with the study of places, the human and physical processes which shape them, and the people who live in them. Geography helps children to make sense of their immediate surroundings and the wider world.
Much of KS1 geography is based on direct experience, practical activities and exploration of the local area. Children use maps, pictures and books to compare Long Eaton with other places. The children are introduced to the vocabulary of geography and are encouraged to ask geographical questions.
At KS2 children develop their understanding of geography by studying a contrasting locality and a locality in an economically developing country. They are taught how to find geographical information and develop skills to help them interpret and make sense of the knowledge gained.
Our lessons will help children develop the awareness of the world around them and how they can affect its future.
